Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2 Remake is a survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom. It was released on January 25, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. The game is a full remake of the original Resident Evil 2, which was first released in 1998 for the PlayStation.

Setting and Story

The game is set in Raccoon City, which has been overrun by a viral outbreak caused by the T-Virus, turning people into zombies and other monstrous creatures. Players control Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie police officer, and Claire Redfield, a college student searching for her brother, Chris Redfield (a main character in the first game).

The story follows their separate paths as they try to escape the city, uncover the truth behind the outbreak, and survive against increasingly horrifying threats. The remake sticks closely to the original plot but enhances it with modern storytelling techniques, visuals, and gameplay mechanics

Platforms

  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox One
  • Microsoft Windows (PC)
  • Nintendo Switch (cloud version) – Later released in 2022.

Gameplay

  • Fixed Cameras: Unlike the original, which used fixed camera angles, the remake uses a third-person over-the-shoulder perspective, similar to the style found in Resident Evil 4.
  • Survival Horror: The game emphasizes resource management, where ammunition, healing items, and other resources are limited, heightening the tension.
  • Exploration and Puzzle Solving: Players must explore various locations, like the Raccoon City Police Department (RPD) and the underground laboratory, to find key items and solve puzzles to advance.
  • Combat: Players face off against various enemies, including zombies, Lickers, and a relentless nemesis-like creature called Mr. X. Combat is more tactical than action-focused, requiring players to conserve ammo and avoid unnecessary fights.
